Cruising Asia on Spectrum Of The Seas

Cruising Asia on Spectrum Of The Seas

In June 2023, my husband and I cruised on Spectrum of the Seas for 6 days. We departed from Singapore and travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Phuket with a sea day back to Singapore.

There were over 4,500 passengers, with about 900 international passengers on board. With the last week of the Singaporean school holidays, these were mostly family groups. It was lovely to see everyone having a fabulous time! Royal Caribbean is a fantastic cruise line for multi-generational families.

Check-in was extremely easy and quick. Immigration with Australian passports is easy, you just put your passport in the automated immigration machines. It is a very big terminal and they had over 80 check-in staff, which helps check-in move quicker. I would definitely cruise out of Singapore again as it is very organised.

With so many activities, everyone was busy. The biggest differences compared with Australian cruises is that there are fewer bars and a lot more coffee shops, and of course plenty of shopping! Mainly high-end watches and handbags.

The general feel of the ship had a more relaxed family atmosphere too.

The food was good in the main restaurant, and Windjammers casual dining was always busy - best to avoid if possible. Chops Grille Steakhouse was surprisingly busy with families. The Solarium was a nice place to be, as adults only in this area. The restaurant in the Solarium was only available for suite guests, whereas on Australian cruises it is an Adults only restaurant.

The entertainment was fantastic, and we really enjoyed Two 70 Bar at the rear of the ship. We were able to watch the entertainers practising. It was an excellent venue. Also, a great spot to relax, read a book or to have breakfast and lunch.

When you purchase your cruise in Australia and pay AUD, like I did, the gratuities of USD $18 per person per day was already included in our fare. Please be aware that if you buy on cheap discount websites, you will likely not have this included and will need to budget a hefty sum to pay gratuities at the end of your cruise, not to mention the currency conversion from USD.

Please make sure that you have all visas required for stops in ports. Your travel agent can help you understand requirements and even help you apply for your visas.

If I can help you book your own cruise around Asia, please get in touch. In the meantime, enjoy some snaps from my journey to get you inspired!
