It's been two full decades since we last embarked on a Disney Wonder cruise, this time from the beautiful port of Brisbane, Australia.
Back then, our children were 7 and 10 years old, and the memories created were nothing short of magical. Our journey began at the Brisbane Cruise Terminal, where we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and engaging staff. The check-in process was a breeze, and we soon found ourselves stepping aboard the magnificent ship.
With a size of 88,000 tons and a capacity for around 2,500 passengers, Disney Wonder felt just right. It was compact enough for comfortable exploration. Despite nearing its 24th year of service, Disney Wonder remains in immaculate condition, a testament to Disney's unwavering commitment to maintenance and care. I would class Disney Cruise Lines as Luxury Family Cruising.
The buffet at Cabana's was a delightful surprise, offering a wide array of delicious dishes complemented by complimentary beverages, including tea, coffee, and soft drinks.
Dining aboard Disney Wonder was a standout experience. The ship features three main restaurants, Animator's Palate. Triton's and Tiana's Place. Each offers rotational dining with the same dedicated wait staff. Dinners were not just meals but interactive experiences, making Disney's immersive magic come alive for every member of the family.
The ship treated us to numerous shows and movie screenings throughout the day and evening, each lasting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The selection ranged from the latest releases to timeless classics, ensuring entertainment for all. Weather permitting, the nights came alive with breathtaking fireworks displays, along with meet-and-greet character sessions around the ship and in the Atrium.
On sea days, the activities were endless, from engaging trivia sessions to thrilling games of bingo and creative craft workshops. And for parents seeking a little relaxation, the kids' clubs offered a perfect respite. Shopping on Disney cruises was a delightful experience, with a treasure trove of limited-edition merchandise. It felt like everyone on board was proudly sporting their Disney-themed attire throughout the voyage.
The cabins aboard were cosy and well-appointed. Verandas offered comfortable seating and a low table for those serene moments at sea. The bathroom boasted a shower over a small bath, perfect for the little ones, along with a separate toilet featuring a basin and convenient shelving.
Now, let's talk about gratuities. The customary practice involves an approximate charge of $29 per night per couple or $14.50 per person per day. This is divided among your attentive wait staff and the efficient stateroom crew. However, being Australians, we opted for a more personal approach. We chose to provide each staff member with cash, allowing them to use it as they saw fit, rather than having it added to their wages. This decision, of course, is entirely a matter of personal preference.
In closing, if you're an avid Disney enthusiast, a Disney Cruise should be on your must-do list. Our recent journey was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving us with treasured memories and a yearning for more adventures.
