The weather was cooler in early October, and the walks and hikes around the villages were ideal at that time of year. We used the local ferries and bus network to explore the many villages dotted along the lakeshore and discovered Como and Bellagio and had a rainy but gorgeous day exploring Villa Carlotta. Yes, we spotted Mr Clooney's villa - however, afternoon tea was not offered!
The water was somewhat cool, but so refreshing - we just had to experience a dip surrounded by those magnificent mountains. Our final morning dawned crisp and clear with the first sprinkling of snow on the mountain tops, so that would explain why the Aussies were the only ones swimming!
Food is an important part of any of our travels, and fresh fish, pizza, and gelato were devoured with glee. We loved getting to know the locals in our guesthouse, the local supermarket and the small restaurants around the village. This is such a beautiful spot in Italy; I highly recommend it's included in any itinerary for some beauty, serenity and the ability to enjoy some tranquil downtime.
